You will be joining and supporting a team of smart, hard working people who are dedicated and can see their efforts transform into real outcomes for our customers. We have a friendly, "start-up" style culture in our brand new office with free-flow Nespresso, snacks, and our choice of tunes to be played in the background. We have a fully fitted engineering lab with testing suites and inspection tools upstairs and our work is managed by our custom-built IT infrastructure.

What we do and what you will be doing at PMD..
Our main work and income is designing, manufacturing and supplying miniature motors and mechanisms used in a wide range of products such as cars, locks, medical products, toys and tools for example. All our products are manufactured, in part or as a whole, by subcontract manufacturers in South East Asia, with the majority in China. Our two areas of focus in Hong Kong are;
- Solving customer needs by developing new products with manufacturing specifications to put into subcontract production
- Maintaining our dedication to product quality through evaluation, specification and testing. We know the products that we make, and have won the trust of many respected engineering companies around the world
Naturally, engaging suppliers for our projects and getting effective support is a challenging process of assessment, negotiation and relationship; this is where you'd be getting involved. We are continually working new products with engineering DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) and working with our existing supply base, but we need wider visibility and confidence of what's possible to manufacture and by whom. So your typical day may include:
- Searching and assessing new suppliers for engineering products including motors, PCBs and electronic sub-assemblies
- Establishing initial contact and building relationships to introduce our requirements, technical and commercial capabilities and opportunities to suppliers
- Developing and recommending multiple sourcing options for prototype level and pre-production level products to support sales and the Product Development Engineer
- Negotiating factory support for and managing new product trials, testing new processes and materials; including pricing and lead times
- Conducting factory assessment and offering guidance to the team on capability and support-levels of suppliers
- Proactively extending the supplier network through trade shows, exhibitions and building network relationships
What we're looking for..
First and foremost, this role is about networking as well as having a foundation-level understanding of technical manufacturing. You have to enjoy meeting new people, making connections and promoting yourself to rally the support of suppliers to help us win and close challenging deals. We expect you to have demonstrable experience in commercial negotiation and agreements, and practical skills in networking and promotion. Direct experience and qualifications as a buyer or sales in procurement would be a useful asset, particularly in engineering manufacturing. Naturally it goes without saying that fluency in English, and Putonghua Chinese is absolutely essential.
You will be working in a small close-knit team, and so you'll have a lot of freedom to find the best ways to get things done and offer support in many different ways. This means that your proactive approach in your efforts directly helps the team and will make a big overall difference. Based primarily in our brand new Shatin office; we'll provide you with a proper workstation and a dual screen PC. However, we expect that you'll be spending several days per week on ad-hoc travel to trade fairs and factory visits out of the office making personal connections.
