This highly strategic position will consult and collaborate with our exhibition, product, and marketing teams across Southeast Asia to achieve increase international visitors and customers with a focus on exhibitions produced out of our Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore offices by way of improved marketing strategies and implementation. The International Marketing Manager ASEAN will exercise his/her extensive experience across a gamut of marketing disciplines such as audience development/customer acquisition, email marketing, mobile marketing, content marketing, social media marketing, and other forms of electronic and direct marketing. The primary goal is to guide some of our largest event teams in Southeast Asia such as the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF), Intermach, Food Ingredients Asia, Asia Water, and Tissue World to greater heights in quality and quantity of overseas visitors.


Aside from possessing marketing acumen backed by a stellar track record, the International Marketing Manager ASEAN will possess the right set of people, coaching, and mentoring skills to succeed in this position. He/she will report to and collaborate with the UBM Asia Head of International Marketing on a regular basis to monitor progress of project teams, consult and provide new marketing training resources, and produce the company’s annual internal marketing meeting and awards programme.

This position is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Local candidates with international work experience and/or education are preferred.   Exceptional candidates exceeding requirements outside of Malaysia and willing to relocate may also be considered.  Experience in B2B trade fairs and conferences are a plus; however candidates with related marketing experience within online companies and product/service companies are also welcomed.


Responsibilities:

  • Increase quantity and quality of visitors to assigned exhibitions
  • Collaborate with local UBM exhibition marketing and project teams with overall international marketing planning, strategy, and execution
  • Provide continuous marketing support, feedback, and counsel in areas that affect visitor figures and which ultimately improve the customer experience throughout the event cycle
  • Continuously seek out smart and relevant marketing opportunities, techniques, or better ways of working across UBM Asia and UBM in order to facilitate higher results of the main visitor objective
  • Contribute to the department’s overall initiative to provide support and learning across the company by contributing in knowledge sharing via internal blog, providing training sessions (in-person and virtually), and helping to produce the annual internal marketing meeting and awards programme
  • Liaise on a regular basis with UBM Asia Head of International Marketing to mark progress, troubleshoot areas for improvement, and roll-out group wide new initiatives

 Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-8 year experience in marketing with a minimum of four years serving in a marketing manager capacity
  • Native to near native proficiency in English are a must. Written and spoken proficiency in additional languages such as Mandarin or Thai are a plus
  • Excellent presentation and business writing and copy writing skills. Candidates are expected to assist project teams in creating content marketing materials in English as well as critique and correct marketing promotional collateral and press releases
  • Possess proficiency in traditional forms of direct marketing and advance knowledge and skills of online marketing channels such as website marketing, email marketing, and social media marketing
  • Familiarity to mastery of web tools and programmes such as web analytics (Google Analytics, Omniture or similar), Commercial Email Service Providers (such as Epsilon, Chimp Mail or similar), and B2B uses of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Strong experience and knowledge of audience development/customer acquisition programmes
  • Affinity towards marketing metrics and data-driven decision making
  • Collaborative and “people-oriented” demeanor with the ability to influence others by way of positive reinforcement
  • Independent self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple project teams and initiatives with poise
  • Some experience with media, Public Relations, and press release writing are a plus
