We have a task-orientated working life. You are expected to deliver on your promises and get the job done, but you're free to organise your daily routine to accommodate your schedule with our flexi-time structure. On a 9am-6pm day, we have a +/-1 hr flexi-time to best suit yourself and we rarely have late nights or weekends.
What we do and what you will be doing at PMD..
Our main work and income is designing, manufacturing and supplying miniature motors and mechanisms used in a wide range of products such as cars, locks, medical products, toys and tools, for example. All our products are manufactured, in part or as a whole, by subcontract manufacturers in South East Asia, with the majority in China. Our London office is predominantly involved in sales and marketing, Hong Kong in engineering product development and quality control, and finally our Shenzhen office is our logistics and sourcing hub.
You will be involved in direct hands-on validation and verification of products both on-site at our factories in China, in our Shenzhen office and our dedicated development and testing laboratory in Hong Kong. Quality control is one of our more significant achievements, attained by building our own test management systems, programmes, and our own motor testing machines to qualify products and parts in our portfolio. Our manufacturing team will be relying on your visibility of the products to raise concerns before they become problems, and is the foundation by which we have won the trust of many respected engineering companies around the world.
Your typical day may include:
- Routine inspection of product samples with hand tools and test machines
- Implementing and overseeing Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) sample testing at factory production lines
- Reporting non-conforming products and inspection risks to the Manufacturing Engineer
- Photographing and documenting test jigs and machines to allow test replication in Hong Kong
- Packing, shipping, receiving and organising samples and products
- Assisting our engineers with general day-to-day product and quality tasks
You will be expected to visit factory production lines on pre-production approval visits regularly. You will be based in our Hong Kong office and our Shenzhen office on separate days and you will be able to re-base and change flexibly as your schedule requires.
What we're looking for..
You will have a sharp eye for detail, to be able to spot defects, issues and potential problems and the confidence to be able to raise concerns with the Manufacturing Engineer. This is not a race, so careful and methodical practical skills are most important.
Naturally, you'll have practical skills and interest in working with small (and very small) components, testing equipment and small hand tools, and comfortable working through routine inspections. We are a small close-knit team, so your positive enthusiasm to help and satisfaction from a job well done is really important. Some suppliers will have difficulty in achieving the standards needed, but perseverance and problem-solving always comes through after incremental trials and corrections.
As you will be spending time outside Hong Kong, close access to the border will make your life easier getting to factories and our Shenzhen office.
For your qualifications, you need to have;
- Solid fundamental computer skills as it's essential to everything we communicate,
- Fluency in English and Putonghua,
- An unrestricted entry visa access to China for your days in Shenzhen and factory site visits
- We prefer candidates with technical qualifications and minimum of 1 year work experience, however
- Recent graduates are also welcome to apply
