Job Description

Purpose of the Role:

The Practice Area Manager is the subject matter expert within a practice area based portfolio. The Practice Area Manager is responsible for the overall development, content quality and commissioning, and market awareness of the LexisNexis portfolio for their assigned practice areas. The role is responsible for management of all content and content development, author relationships, and customer relationships relating to the portfolio. Close interaction with internal and external partners is required to carry out the role effectively.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Content Management and Development

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the overall practice area, focusing on Practical Guidance modules.

    This includes:

    • Awareness of developments, legislative reforms,procedures, case law and trends within practice area.
    • Deep understanding of all products within practice area including target market, authors, positioning, structure and development needs.
    • Apply practice area knowledge and customer insights to deliver content to ensure currency, relevance and accessibility of products.
    • Support development and communication of value proposition of all titles within portfolio.
    • Support new content development proposals and implemention of new content and new titles within adjacent practice areas and/or jurisdictions.

Customer, Market and Competitor 

  • Understanding of customer personas, workflow and overall market.

  • Competitor awareness and understanding of LN’s competitiveness within market.

Key Relationships Management

  • Close management of all authors, provider, alliances and partnerships within portfolio, including:
    • Author commissioning/Decommissioning
    • Contract negotiations and queries
    • Content development/restructure
    • Performance management
    • General author queries
    • Succession planning
  • Build effective working relationships with editorial teams (both local and off-shore (KL)) which includes:
    • Communication on service progress
    • Feedback on currency reporting, legislation tracking and content format.
  • Build strong relationships with clients/customers, stakeholders and other users to ensure customer insights and feedback drive product development.
  • Engagement with sales and marketing to support product sales and client management and ensuring sales and marketing are fully briefed in relation to the key value proposition of products and related market opportunities.

Challenges and Decision Making Authority
  • Management of large and diverse group of authors.
  • Apply practice area knowledge and insights from customer experience to achieve high quality content focusing on currency, accuracy, authority and comprehensiveness of content.
  • Commissioning and decommissioning authors and succession planning for authorship.
  • Staying abreast of legal developments and changing customer needs.
  • Strategic planning for content development and enhancement.
  • Assists individuals, groups and senior staff in decision-making by providing clear and factual information.

Requirements:
  • Law degree
  • 2 + years of practising experience
  • Demonstrated legal research skills
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Excellent English written and communication skills
