Responsibilities:

• Support the daily routine with respect to the monitoring of displays and stored materials;
• Undertake collection-based and/or original research in areas relevant to the HKMM mission;
• Support the processing of collection transactions to ensure that additions to and deletions from the collections are in accordance with Museum policies and procedures and Hong Kong law. Assist with the receipt and review of collections offered by potential donors;
• Participate in the identification, recording, and organization of the collections to enhance access and retrieval of materials for study and exhibition;
• Provide guided tours and explanations to public groups of subject matter covered by the museum;
• Interact with staff and museum clients with tact, courtesy and respect. Project a positive and professional attitude. Cooperate and support teamwork, maintain and strengthen customer relations;
• Perform other duties, as assigned, to accomplish the goals of the museum.

Requirements:

• Advanced University degree in Hong Kong or Chinese History or art/cultural-related subjects
• Ability to read, write and communicate in both Chinese and English
• Excellent organizational skills and planning ability, detail-oriented with good follow-through
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and read/comprehend instructions

The HKMM is an independent, not-for-profit company responsible for the collection, documentation and presentation of maritime material culture associated with Hong Kong, the South China Sea, and the Pearl River Delta. 

Working with the Hong Kong Government, members of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, academic institutions, cultural and community partners, the HKMM is developing an international standard maritime museum and research centre at Pier 8.
