Job Description
In the year to date, we have doubled our team size in Hong Kong, and as part of our rapid expansion, we are excited to open a new opportunity for a Software Developer to join our dev. team.

PMD has a small, friendly, "start-up" culture. We are a small group of passionate, creative and clever people ambitious about delivering challenging engineering projects and proving our skills every day.
Our software dev. team is small; currently 2 people. Based in the same office and operating an agile development plan, we push quick roll-out cycles to implement new features and tools typically on a monthly basis. We have a task-orientated working life: You are trusted to deliver on your promises, but you're free to organise your daily routine to best accommodate your schedule with our flexi-time structure. On a 9am-6pm day, we have a +/-1 hr flexi-time to best suit yourself and we rarely have late nights or weekends.
What we do and what you will be doing at PMD..
Our main area of work is the design, manufacture and supply of miniature electric motors. This involves teams based in London, Hong Kong and Shenzhen as well as the customers and suppliers with whom we engage. Our software plays a massive part of this as we can connect our teams in real-time, minimise administrative overhead and generally improve how we get things done. The difference, between merely tolerable software systems and game-changing ones, is usability. Software usability affects user engagement, efficiency and trust; this is especially true in the business environment where users engage with the tools all day. Small improvements can make a huge cumulative impact to our overall productivity and capability.
This is where you come in. We are looking for a sharp software developer with a passion for usability, UI and APIs to join our small, dedicated coding team in Hong Kong. You'll be working on our integrated software modules such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Supplier Relationship Managment (SRM) and Bill of Materials (BOM) systems. You'll be fine tuning usability, streamlining UI and interactivity for existing tools as well as developing new features, api interfaces and tools from the ground up. Naturally, you'll also be working on customer-facing features to extend and develop our website front end as well.
One of the great aspects of working on developing / improving tools for your fellow team members is the job satisfaction from knowing that you're writing code that helps them in their day to day work.
Your typical day may include:
- Collaborating with the Senior Developer for new module development
- Improving UI on existing modules to improve user efficiency and usability
- Writing and deploying APIs to extend features of supportive tools
- Create and update functional tests and conducting testing and debugging
- Collaborating with the engineering and sales teams to coordinate feature requests
- Adhoc internal training after release deployment, troubleshooting and support help
You'll be based in our brand new Shatin office with a dual-screen PC setup and fully stocked refreshments!
What we're looking for..
We use PHP / JS / MySQL running with Symfony and Symfony2 frameworks on Linux. Solid fundamental and demonstrable developer skills are essential; such as debugging, testing, OOP and .git version control. As the main part of your work will be in UI, you'll need to have a strong feel for CSS, reusable interactive UI components, layout and visual skills; e.g Photoshop
For your qualifications, we prefer:
- Proficiency of fundamentals; SVN/.git, CSS, MySQL
- Dedication to interactive UI with demonstrable experience with a range of JS / CSS libraries; jQuery, AngularJS, Bootstrap, etc.
- Exposure to PHP frameworks & tools such as Symfony or similar, including PHPUnit / Selenium for testing preferred
- Exposure to API integration via JS / cUrl would be a plus
- Accredited degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant skills or experience
- Recent with graduates with exceptional demonstrable skills are welcome to apply
- Hong Kong citizen/resident or other immigration status with no restrictions for work in HK preferred, but visa sponsorship may be considered on merit

Job package:
- Full time, permanent, 5 day working week (Monday - Friday)
- 9:00am ~ 6:00pm day with 1 hr lunch.
