Our team pulls expertise from manufacturing, mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded and application software disciplines to design and implement new techniques and technologies into our operations. Everyone's happy to help out to get things done, but we're free to organise our own daily routine to best accommodate our tasks. On a 9am-6pm day, we have a +/-1 hr flexi-time to best suit yourself and we rarely have late nights or weekends.

What we do and what you will be doing at PMD..

You'll be joining our engineering, or 'infrastructure' team where you will be right in the middle of the development programmes for R&D of new and existing internal systems, tools and machines. This is a special service team which operates like an internal engineering consultancy tasked to develop and improve our core business operations of miniature electric motors and assemblies.

We have a few projects running in parallel, but an example of a current project is a new miniature dynamometer utilising eddy-current braking to characterise electric motor performance at very low torques. The dynomometer uses instrumentation software written in C++ using the Qt framework which gives us scope to build a smaller quick-tester which runs an Android UI over Bluetooth.

Your typical day may include:

• Prototyping, reviewing and testing new hardware designs on PCB; including layout
• Working with our other development engineers to write application and instrumentation software in C++ (and poss. LabView)
• Writing, debugging and testing microcontroller (MCU) and/or PC software 
• Building, installing and training our technicians and operational team on new updates and systems
• Designing and implementing adhoc tools and electromechanical fixtures with our 3D printing machine

What we're looking for..

This is an engineering development role, so we're looking for someone who loves creating new and better solutions, working on challenging projects, and takes pride in rolling out something that's robust and working for everyone to rely on.

Firstly, you have to be thoroughly comfortable with electronics; with a strong familiarity with both digital and analogue control and basic signal processing. This position involves software development, both for application / instrumentation and embedded, so an interest and experience will be essential.

For your qualifications, we prefer you to have;

• Degree in Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering or related discipline (2:1 or 1st preferred)
• 2 to 5 years working experience in a professional engineering development setting
• Strong, demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency in C++, embedded and/or application development (including software testing)
• Fluent in English is essential to work alongside our engineers in HK and overseas
• Exposure to the following technologies would help support your application:
• Atmel AVR 8-bit / 32-bit MCU
• Qt Application / UI Framework
• LabView / NI instrumentation and I/O
• EAGLE PCB layout, or similar
• Exposure and familiarity with Arduino
• Practical hands-on experience with soldering and troubleshooting electronics hardware
• Hong Kong citizen/resident or other immigration status with no restrictions for work in HK
