Job Description

CPCE Libraries

College Librarian (Ref. 150605-01)

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) play a key role in the strategic development of the two libraries to support the CPCE and its units;
(b) lead the library team in providing quality services to meet the needs of library users with economy, efficiency and effectiveness;
(c) establish and review library policies and goals, administer and monitor library budget;
(d) coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the library services; manage the day-to-day operations of the libraries;
(e) prepare and implement staffing plans (including staff development), interview and select staff, schedule, assign, train, and review the work of assigned staff;
(f) perform a variety of professional library work, including acquisition and cataloguing of library materials, reference services, promotion of information literacy among staff and students;
(g) manage all collection development activities, including selection of information sources, licenses negotiation, budget allocation, and liaison with other parties concerned;
(h) supervise the maintenance of physical facilities of the libraries; and
(i) perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognized degree with postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Sciences;
(b) at least eight years’ extensive management/specialist experience;
(c) good understanding of library technical and reader services, and the application of information technologies in libraries;
(d) working experience in technical processing, and maintaining major integrated library system;
(e) strong organizational, problem-solving, leadership and communication skills; and
(f) high proficiency in English and Chinese. 

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a two-year contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
