REPORTS TO: Research Manager

RELATES TO: Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Analysts, Financial Researchers, Local Hong Kong managers

RESPONSIBLE FOR: The maintenance of a global database of LPs and GPs and related analytical tasks.

 

Role

The Financial Researcher forms part of a global team responsible for the research and maintenance of a number of online intelligence services that track the flow of capital between investors (LPs) and fund managers (GPs) active in the alternative asset classes of private equity, private real estate, infrastructure and private debt.

The researcher is primarily engaged in the following activities:

  • Building and maintaining written and data-driven profiles for inclusion in our online and print products
  • Using online sources, including company/investor websites, SEC filings and news sources to maintain up to date and accurate intelligence
  • Telephone interviews with senior executives at institutional investors to determine their current allocation to and future appetite for investments into alternative assets.
  • Telephone interviews with fund managers to obtain reliable information about their fundraising activities
  • Translation of these phone conversations into the accurate input of data into relevant fields
  • Writing high quality factual copy to summarise the attitude of the investor/fund manager towards the asset class
  • Writing high quality analysis pieces relating to investors in alternative asset funds
  • Maintaining a good knowledge of alternative assets news through reading
  • Multiple intelligence sources to spot trends and contribute ideas for analysis pieces
  • Delivering analytical research for publication in PEI editorial products or event presentations or as per customer requirements
  • Other duties

 

The balance of the above tasks will vary.

The role demands excellent organisational skills, excellent communication and an analytical mind. The ability to focus and a keen eye for detail are essential to ensure that we maintain accuracy and a high quality of output. The Financial Researcher also needs to be comfortable with process and is thorough in their work

 

Key Relationships

The Financial Researcher will work with a team of researchers within the local office and will be expected to build relationships with research colleagues in other offices. The Financial Researcher will also need to build relationships with editorial, sales, conference and marketing staff members where necessary.

The Financial Researcher is responsible for building relationships with senior contacts in the industry through telephone contact.

 

Experience/knowledge required

The role would suit individuals with high levels of self-motivation, excellent communication skills and the ability to understand the dynamics of the industry so as to have informed conversations with its players.

The role also demands patience and attention to detail so that work is completed on time and to the required standard. Multitasking skills are also essential.

The successful candidate must have excellent spoken and written English skills. Proficiency in another language, especially a Chinese language, would be advantageous.

The role remands demonstrate excellent research skills. The post holder should be inquisitive and have a proactive, methodological and enthusiastic approach to work.

The ability to work on one’s own initiative whilst maintaining close and effective relationships within a team is needed.

A working knowledge of and interest in financial services would be a distinct advantage. The potential to grasp the dynamics of the private equity industry is also required.

Candidates should be degree educated.
