Yacht Chief Engineer is in charge of the engineering department and is responsible for its safe and efficient operation. He/she reports to the Captain. As well as managing the Engineers, the Chief Engineer has overall responsibility for the engineering department. Tasks generally include:
- Day-to-day work of maintaining the mechanical and electrical operations of the yacht
- Supervising the rest of the team and ensuring that all planned maintenance takes place
- Coordinate operations with shore-side engineers
- Keeping the mechanical side of the yacht running without a hitch
- Manage and supervise engine repairs, re-huals and general upkeep in the Engine Room
- Manage and train subordinate staff in the engine room
Required Skills and Experience:
- Able to trouble-shoot and repair virtually everything in the confines of the yacht
- Have a good knowledge base of finding and purchasing parts for the yacht
- Experience or an understanding of International Safety Management (ISM) or Mini ISM is required
- ≥ 5 year experience working on ≥ 150 feet yacht as Cheif Engineer
- Fluent in English
Required Certification:
- MCA STCW Chief Engineer (Yachts) Certificate appropriate for the engine capacity
- or MCA Merchant Navy STCW Second Engineer Certification
- or MCA Merchant Navy STCW Chief Engineer Certification
- or equivalent certification
