We are seeking an experienced and skilled Italian translator to work alongside our international marketing team. You will translate and adapt our English material for the Italian market. This would include all our marketing related materials, such as leaflets, mailings, petitions etc, and also includes website content and media updates.

This is a part time position based in our Hong Kong office. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to make a real difference in the animal welfare sector!

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

• Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained and the story told;
• Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
• Using appropriate software for presentation and delivery;
• Researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation;
• Liaising with the internal team to ensure any unclear points are addressed;
• Proofreading and editing final translated versions;
• Prioritising work to meet deadlines;
• Retaining and developing knowledge on specialist areas of translation;
• Following various translation-quality standards to ensure legal and ethical obligations to the customer;
• On an adhoc basis, be supporter facing, speaking to Italian supporters on the phone or replying to communications.

Candidate requirements

• Fluency in Italian and English (native Italian speaker preferred);
• A good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language/country-specific culture in Italy;
• Excellent writing skills and command of grammar;
• Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines;
• The ability to use initiative;
• A background and understanding of the charity and/or marketing sectors in Italy is not essential but would be an advantage.
