Job Description

Primary objective of the position

  • Support and contribute as part of the design team in the preparation and issuing of presentations, business development material, design reports, design, documentation and project management of small to medium size projects.
  • Contribute to HASSELL being a global leader in designing a sustainable future.

 

Reporting

  • Team Leader; and
  • Discipline Leader.

 

Liaises with

  • Other HASSELL people within the disciplines plus support staff such as those in the Business Development, Finance, People & Culture, IT and administration;

Clients;

  • Suppliers;
  • Consultants; and
  • Authorities (and any other third parties involved in the project delivery).

Key Skills and Experience

  • Commercial workplace, team and client management.
  • Design and Project Management/Client skills.
  • Project management and design experience.
  • Microsoft proficiency in Revit / Autocad is essential. 
  • IT Office, ADT, documentation skills, professional presentation skills.
  • Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
  • Bilingual literacy and willing to travel to project sites in China as required

 

Key Activities

Please note that periodically you may be asked to undertake activities outside of those listed below.

Team Leadership

  • Provide design leadership through example and commitment to excellence in design and project management.
  • Participate in design critiques for other current projects which are important for maintaining the highest design standards possible.
  • Initiate and deliver projects and provide direction for other team leaders/project managers to achieve the same.

Team Development

  • Assist with the direction and growth of the local studio;
  • Act as mentor to Interior Design personnel.
  • Encourage a collaborative team environment, by leading the design process and delegating effectively to the project team for the production of design presentations and associated documentation within the project programmes.
  • Report to Discipline Leader/Principal on activities and initiatives of the group.

 

Business Development

  • Participate with interior design, colleagues in other disciplines, the Principal and BD team in the identification, pursuit and development of projects.
  • Contribute to and prepare fee proposals, submissions and undertake other activities arising from the business development plan.
  • Actively identify and pursue opportunities with other HASSELL disciplines and geographic locations.

Design Documentation and Project Management Standards

  • Regularly review interior design projects and ensure compliance with HASSELL project quality system;
  • Communicate effectively on design intent, in presentation to clients and internally to the team;
  • Ensure all project documentation is checked and signed off as to compliance with relevant professional, technical and risk management standards.

Leadership and Initiative

  • Ensure project work is completed within timescale and budget.
  • Maintain expected levels of personal productivity.
  • Act in accordance with established HASSELL policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback about what worked well and what might have been improved to Team Leaders and Discipline Leader.
  • React flexibly when dealing with unexpected problems and changes in priorities.
  • Seek timely advice of more senior team members where appropriate.
  • Promptly refer upwards any client or team members’ issues outside own authority.
  • Share information and contribute to problem resolution.
  • Organise and maintain work in a logical and clear manner.  Ensure own work is completed to the standards required by senior team members and clients. 
  • Report regularly to senior team members on progress towards targets and issues encountered.
  • Use information technology appropriately for planning, completing and delivering work.
  • Co-operates with all Occupational Health and Safety policies and legislative requirements

Working Conditions

  • Open plan studio environment
  • Hours:  9.00am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday/1 hour for lunch. Flexibility in working hours to meet deadlines imperative.
  • Possible site meetings and inspections.
