The University now invites applications for the following position:

Part-time Research Assistant – Department of English (Ref: PTRA (ENG) 2025-11-28)

Responsibilities:

  • conduct comprehensive literature reviews on Shakespearean adaptations, corpus linguistics, and discourse analysis;

  • source and collect a wide range of data, including digitized texts of children’s and young adult books;

  • process collected data and compile a structured digital corpus for analysis;

  • assist with both qualitative (e.g., close reading, thematic coding) and quantitative (e.g., corpus-assisted discourse analysis) data analysis; and

  • coordinate with project team members and assist with project-related logistics

Applicants should:

  • possess a recognised bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, English Literature, Digital Humanities, Computer Science, or a related field;

  • have received formal training or demonstrated experience in corpus linguistics and/or discourse analysis;

  • possess programming skills (e.g., in Python or R) for data crawling, processing, and analysis;

  • be proficient in written and spoken English;

  • have a good working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods, statistical software and/or qualitative data analysis tools, particularly for working with textual data; and

  • have a genuine interest in children’s and young adult literature, Shakespeare, and themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The employment is on a 5 to 9-month contract.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
