GoPro is seeking a top tier candidate for the Cross-functional Technical Lead in the camera team. This position will be responsible for overseeing technical developments on GoPro’s next generation camera products. The Technical Lead will work closely with internal teams – including leads from the hardware, mechanical and firmware - to provide overall management and oversight of the technical challenges and issues throughout the product development cycle. The Technical Lead will be partnered with a Program Manager and Product Manager for the product and will provide the technical leadership to make the program a success. The Technical Lead is not expected to be a subject matter expert in all areas, but they are expected to understand the technical challenges at a high level and be very good at interfacing with the various technical teams to ensure every challenge has a path to success. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing consumer electronic products and have a good working knowledge of all three main engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, and firmware), a deep knowledge in at least one discipline and possesses great leadership and communications skills.

What Will You Do

Manage the overall camera solution and the cross and internal technical challenges faced by the team
Ensure that all technical challenges and risks are identified and are appropriately managed
Work closely with the Program Manager and Product Manager to ensure they are aware of high-risk technical challenges
Work with the technical teams to manage high-level design review meetings for the program to ensure the teams are in sync on technical challenges, solutions and risks
Evaluate and make decisions based on data, known science, materials, and processes
Review, evaluate, and clearly summarize product technical status, related tradeoffs and recommendations.
Develop and follow a technical development and review checklist during development
Document and share best practices for development, particularly cross functional technical dependencies
Be available to the Program Manager and/or Product Manager for consultation of cross-functional issues during a program

Skills We're Stoked About

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering BS degree; Masters preferred
10+ years of hands-on industry experience – ideally developing consumer electronics products
Program/project management, team management or technical lead experience
Good working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and firmware engineering disciplines.
Deep knowledge and experience in at least one discipline
Proven expertise in leading product design and development.
Success in bringing products to market from conception to production
Team player; Ability to work in cross-functional teams
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Results and deadline driven
Works with minimal supervision on complex technical efforts
Ability to travel (domestic and internationally)
