Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director of the Center, the Manager of HIC will be responsible for the daily operation of the Heritage Interpretation Center in accordance with the established HIC operating hours, and outreach to the community to promote public interest of the HIC.  He/She will also work closely with center staff in Hong Kong, UChicago Global team in Chicago and other university partners to assist in the development of projects and activities which relate to heritage and community engagement. 

This position will also assist in a wide variety of special projects and other events as assigned.

Key responsibilities include:

Heritage

• Support the project team as required during the development phase of the HIC, and participate in various activities in preparation for the opening of the Heritage Interpretation Center in November 2018.
• Conduct heritage tours to visitors including individuals and groups with a diverse age range and background.  
• Recruit, train, and manage docents when required.
• Manage the booking and scheduling of tours; make provisions to accommodate walk-in visitors.
• Outreach to the broader Hong Kong community and local Mt. Davis neighborhoods to promote public interest of the center.
• Prepare publicity materials and manage printing of brochures, information leaflets, etc.
• Collect visitor surveys and tally data.
• Manage HIC website and collect feedback from various channels to inform future adjustments to the HIC exhibits and operations.
• Manage the HIC smart phone app and coordinate with the app vendor as required.
• Work with facility management team and IT support team on daily operations of HIC and liaise with vendors/ contractors for regular maintenance, and also with specialty consultants/contractors when required. 
• Familiarize with the Conservation Management Plan Part 1 and Part 2 (Part 2 is the Operations and Maintenance Plan).
• Familiarize with the Hong Kong Jockey Club Grant Agreement and manage compliance with Key Performance Index (KPI) related to the Heritage Grant.
• Familiarize with the overall intent of the HIC and Interpretation Plan, along with the overarching theme and historical narratives of the Mt. Davis site.
• Manage the rotation of exhibits on a regular basis.
• Support Historian-in-Residence on photo exhibitions and public lectures.
• Engage and support the Heritage Committee in Chicago and the Heritage Advisory Committee in Hong Kong
• Maintain a database on events, tours and visitors; support financial and annual reporting.
• Maintain accounting and non-accounting records as required by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Grant Agreement.
• Participate in networking activities with organizations such as the Alliance for Arts, Culture, and Heritage.
• Other duties as assigned.

University Support

• Work closely with center/university staff on communications, websites, e-news and social media to effectively engage audience with cross promotion of activities.
• Assist in campus tour with heritage and other university components.
• Support university events and activities especially on community engagement, e.g. public lectures.
• Assist in research and other projects for the on-going development of university programming.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, with 4-5 years of working experiences in project management, marketing, operations and communications.
• Working knowledge of university/academic culture preferred; knowledge or interest in heritage and conservation a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Mandarin/Cantonese is required.
• A self-starter and a team player with strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
• Ready to be hands-on for all projects with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work independently in a small team.
• Attention to details and the ability to multi-task to meet project deadlines.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Experience on research, writing and data reporting a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and creative in solving problems.
• Ability to work with a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
